Mingling in Montréal – All the Off-Track Highlights from Canada

The action may be heating up down in the paddock as we count down to the race, but Kimi, Romain and Jérôme have taken time to cool off during the evenings here in Montréal. Find out what they’ve been up to away from the on-track action…

The Canadian Grand Prix is one of the most popular events on the Formula 1 calendar among the teams, and it’s not hard to see why; great people, a vibrant city and plenty of atmosphere flowing through the paddock.
It comes as little surprise then that the drivers have had a packed schedule away from their driving commitments this week, with a number of events taking place both at the circuit and elsewhere around the city.
Kimi and Romain kicked things off with a special event in the centre of town, where the pair met with guests of team partner Total. The evening kicked off with a guide to the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve from the 2007 World Champion, followed by Q&A, signature, and group photograph sessions with both drivers.
Thursday brought the Iceman to the fans, with a unique street gathering organised by team partner TW Steel giving the public a chance to get a closer view of the Finn for an open autograph session. A big crowd gathered to greet Kimi as he arrived on stage – the man himself ever-popular across all parts of the globe.
Across town meanwhile, Romain, Jérôme and Team Principal Eric Boullier were in attendance at the Canadian Grand Prix gala dinner; with a sumptuous meal and plenty of cocktails on offer – none of the latter for the drivers of course! During a race weekend anyway…
Friday saw the continuation of a big weekend for TW Steel, as both Kimi and Romain joined Eric Boullier for a mass photo call in the paddock promoting the launch of the brand’s latest Lotus F1 Team watch. The most recent addition to the collection certainly catches the eye; their slogan of ‘Big in Oversized Watches’ is no understatement!
With the week’s socialising over it was back to business for all concerned on Saturday as running got underway. Let’s hope the drivers took the chance to relax, as the countdown to lights out in Canada begins…
