After qualifying fifth but losing five positions for a gearbox penalty, Räikkönen spent time in the midfield before rising back up the order at the track on which he celebrated his maiden F1 career win with McLaren nine years ago. He is now seventh in the standings.
“I hope we get a normal race next time,” he said on Sunday evening. “All the time there is something going wrong or we have the weather changing a lot, so it would just be nice to have a normal weekend to be able to see where we really are; right at the moment, nobody knows where anybody is, but we do seem to have a strong package.”
Once again, Lotus team-mate Romain Grosjean out-qualified Räikkönen on Saturday but, also repeating a pattern established in Melbourne last weekend, he retired early.
