FRIDAY IN SPA – CATCH UP WITH KIMI [Q&A + PICTURES]

The ‘King of Spa’ made a long awaited return to his most prolific circuit today at Spa-Francorchamps, but with torrential rain battering the track throughout both sessions it was a somewhat subdued day’s work for the Iceman

KIMI, WITH LIMITED RUNNING IN FP1 AND NO LAPS AT ALL IN FP2, WAS THERE REALLY ANYTHING TO LEARN FROM OUR FIRST DAY IN SPA ?

I only actually put in one complete lap during the whole day – and this was just to practice the start procedure – but we can’t control the weather ; it’s been like this before and it’ll be like it again. It’s a shame for the fans but there’s nothing we can really do to change it ; when there’s that much water on the track you just end up aquaplaning, so it is what it is.

EVERY TEAM HAD SO LITTLE TRACK TIME TODAY, COULD TRAFFIC BE AN ISSUE IN FP3 TOMORROW MORNING AS EVERYONE TRIED TO COMPENSATE ? HOW CRUCIAL WILL THAT SESSION BE ?

It’s the same situation as we would have any other circuit. In fact, with such a long lap the effect shouldn’t be so bad as at some places. We’ll have to see what the weather does. I was happy with the car at the last race so hopefully we can find a good setup pretty quickly.

MANY PEOPLE ARE RANKING THE TEAM – AND YOURSELF IN PARTICULAR GIVEN YOUR RECORD HERE – AS FAVOURITES FOR THE RACE ON SUNDAY ; WOULD YOU AGREE ?

It makes no difference what people say before the race ; all that matters is the result. The most important thing right now is to get the best time possible in qualifying and see where we go from there.
